Our biggest fears about full-time RVing and how we’re preparing to handle challenges like breakdowns, safety, and living in small spaces.

Introduction

We are Jess and Maddy, and we’re about to embark on our full-time RVing adventure with our two dogs. While we’re beyond excited for this lifestyle change, we’d be lying if we said we weren’t nervous. There are plenty of unknowns that come with life on the road, from mechanical issues to safety concerns and adjusting to small living spaces. Instead of letting these fears hold us back, we’re preparing as much as possible. Here’s what we’re nervous about and how we’re tackling each challenge head-on.

1. RV Breakdowns & Unexpected Repairs

🚨 The Fear: What if we break down in the middle of nowhere? What if an expensive repair drains our budget?

🔧 How We’re Preparing:

  • Learning basic RV maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Investing in roadside assistance programs like Good Sam, AAA, or Coach-Net.
  • Keeping an emergency repair toolkit on hand (wrenches, duct tape, fuses, etc.).
  • Watching YouTube tutorials and joining RV forums to learn from experienced travelers.

5. Finding Reliable Internet for Remote Work

📡 The Fear: Will we struggle to find a strong internet connection?

💻 How We’re Preparing:

  • Researching mobile internet solutions (Starlink, cellular hotspots, campground Wi-Fi).

  • Using RV discount memberships like Passport America and Harvest Hosts.

  • Joining online RV communities and groups to connect with other travelers.
  • Planning meetups with fellow RVers.
  • Journaling to reflect on our experiences and stay mindful.
